The capital of Bihar State, Patna had several names – Pataliputra, Patalipattan, Pataligram, Kusumpur and Azimabad. Patna district is the most populous of all the districts in Bihar. It is one of the oldest inhabited places in the world, its history and tradition date back to the dawn of civilization. Ancient Patna was the seat of power and the capital of many kingdoms like Haryanka, Nanda, Magadh, Mauryan, Sunga, Kanva, Gupta, Pala and Suri.
Patna has long been an important center of agricultural trade and industry. The area is famous for the medium grain Patna rice. It is an important business center in eastern India. Food processing is the fastest growing sector, due to the availability of surplus agricultural products in the district. CSR in Patna is still far below satisfaction as Bihar scores the lowest on most corporate social responsibility metrics. Yet some private companies and PSUs like Indian Oil are active on the welfare front. We present some of the best CSR projects in Patna.

The Indian Oil Corporation robotic scavenger

In an effort to end the practice of manual cleaning in Patna, IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Limited) funded a mechanized sewage cleaning robot. “Bandicoot” is a robotic manhole cleaning system that costs Rs. 40 lakh. Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Sharma officially launched the recovery machine in the city jointly with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) – Bihar.
The management panel stays out of the manhole and the spider-shaped construction with one arm and 4 legs penetrates the manhole and removes silt and blockages. The management panel assists with internal inspection using infrared cameras. UNFPA – Bihar has hired a specialist agency to operate the cleaning robot under a memorandum of understanding signed by the Patna municipal company. Bandicoot has two interconnected buildings.
