Don Bosco University wins Award for Excellence in Institutional Social Responsibility


Assam Don Bosco University won the prestigious ‘Institutional Social Responsibility Award of Excellence’ awarded by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at the 7th FICCI Higher Education Excellence Awards Ceremony, February 25, 2021.

The University has integrated social responsibility and community awareness into its educational processes. He also introduced Service Learning, which aims to take their educational goal to the next level.

“Service learning is a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that meet human and community needs as well as structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development. It’s a method that connects the classroom to the field, ”explained the University of its community engagement program. The program was institutionalized in 2020 but had been in practice since 2008.

The University also shared how it undertook the program to achieve its vision: “To make young people intellectually competent, morally honest, socially engaged and spiritually inspired citizens in service to India and the world today and to. tomorrow.”

The Community Engagement Program aims to develop socially engaged graduates who are socially aware, aware, responsive and active. They should be committed and responsible agents of social good, and committed to improving the structures and institutions of society so that social justice is guaranteed and the dignity and worth of all sections of society are respected.

The community engagement program is implemented in and around Azara village, Joypur village and a few other villages under Kamarkuchi Goan Panchayat and Barkhat Goan Panchayat. This social initiative was enthusiastically supported by the faculty, staff and students, with the dedicated support of the administration.

A two-credit service-learning course offered by each department to its students adds seriousness to the program. The community engagement program includes a minimum of 180 hours of service component for 2 year programs, 200 minimum hours for 3 year programs and 300 minimum hours for 4 year programs. The faculty received orientation and training to lead this course as part of a three-day faculty development program in January 2020.

In addition to the aforementioned prestigious award, Assam Don Bosco University also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of Assam, in recognition of the University’s contribution during the COVID pandemic. -19. The University was also one of the five winners of the “ Unnati ki Kahani Chitro ki Jubani ” competition and winner of the 7th eNabling North East Award 2019-2020, in the category of Health, Sanitation and Wellness.

Internationally, the University was declared the winner of the “Committed University of the Year 2020 Asia-Pacific (Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Engagement)” award on January 10, 2020, by the Accreditation Council of Entrepreneurial and Committed Universities (ACEEU ), Science Park, The Netherlands.
