Row of PPE kits: Himanta Biswa responds to corruption allegations and hits back at Kejriwal

Amid the row of PPE kits in Assam, Chief Minister Himata Biswa Sarma has now attacked Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal over his 2020 tweet exchange with BJP MP Gautam Gambhir.

“Delhi CM suo moto offered to buy PPE kits from anywhere without tender. Why? Does his deputy CM think CM is corrupt as he asked someone to ‘immediately arranging PPE kits somewhere and said Delhi govt will buy them? No reference to any tender etc,’ Biswa wrote on Twitter.

Biswa was accused of giving a PPE contract to his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma. The allegation was further amplified by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia yesterday accused Himanta Biswa of corruption. He claimed that Himanta, who was health minister in 2020, awarded the contract to a company in which Sarma’s wife is a partner.

He added that, according to the contract, a PPE kit was priced at 990, while the government of Assam had the option of purchasing PPE kits from 600 per piece from other locations

Sarma, meanwhile, claimed that these PPE kits were donated by his wife’s company as part of its corporate social responsibility and the government paid nothing.

Later, Sarma shared the company’s letter to Assam National Health Mission saying the supply of PPE kit should be treated as CSR.

“Assam NHM has duly acknowledged the same. Manish bhai this is not bribery this is humanity. My wife did not commit any crime she tried to help Assam at the time of his greatest crisis. Throwing mud on others will not be accepted. You will face legal consequences,” Himanta tweeted.
